Stacey Stout for Mahtomedi School Board
As a mom of two boys attending Mahtomedi Middle School, I understand the importance of continuing the district's academic excellence. I am running for re-election to the Mahtomedi School Board because I believe in the importance of public service and hope to build upon the strengths of the district. As the first person in my family to graduate with a college degree, I know education is the foundation for achieving individual potential. While in law school, I was a Rotary Scholar, where I grew as a leader through service to others. As an attorney for 20 years, service has been at the center of my career, working closely with legislators and regulatory agencies at both the state and federal level and volunteering on local boards and commissions.
I understand the importance of a solutions-oriented approach when addressing challenges and needs in our district. In addition to ensuring the district stays the course on efficient use of school funding, the school board needs to champion the district's strategic plan. The strategic plan lays out the goals for students to learn without barriers and to pursue their passions as agents of their own learning. We must ensure that these goals are attainable and that our students are developing lifelong skills. With our district's academic excellence, strong student and community engagement, and support for social-emotional growth, our graduates will be prepared for post-secondary success.
Goals for our District:
- First, we must sustain our district's high-quality education programs. As we approach learning in new ways due to the circumstances brought on by the coronavirus pandemic, it is imperative that the district continues instructional rigor and engagement that allows students to reach their full potential.
- Second, we must continue to improve student engagement and meet students' individual needs. Building relationships that strengthen academic and social-emotional growth are a key to addressing students' mental health needs and providing individualized support to address barriers and inequities.
- Finally, now is a critical time for the district to maintain efficient use of school funding and ensure the continuance of cost-effective programs that serve our students well. In addition, the district must continue to work to secure state funding, while applying fiscal discipline to ensure the programs and opportunities offered to students continues.
